I have received an update to the X server packages and have installed a new kernel (32-15), so I thought I'd give it another shot. Installing the drivers with Jockey and using nvidia-xconfig, OpenGL seems to be working for now (though it may not work next reboot), and the "This driver is installed but not currently in use" bug is still present.
