I've the same problem with Karmic (9.10) on my Dell Latitude E6500 with synaptics.
It do not happen always. 3/4 of the time my touchpad is working okay after suspend, and 1/4 of the times it is very slow after suspend. My workaround is to suspend my laptop again, and bring it back. Most of the times the touchpad is fast again. I hope this bug is fixed soon.
