I was originally testing from a live dvd to isolate potential problems from a system upgrade. I have switchable gfx (intel 4500 and radeon 3450), the problem appears to occur with either video card active in the bios, so I suspect the problem is not x-related after trying to track it down further, but still no luck. can't suspend/resume on my T400. I will try again with new fglx and report back tonight, but I was also getting a kernel panic on boot with the new -20 version.
