Yes, you can get back to 2.4 driver version from jaunty, as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4 Also, you can download a not-so-old version, such as 2.6, from http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org, then install it with dpkg.
