This was happening on my machine intermittently on 9.10: most of the time it would suspend and resume just fine, but one time in ten it would surprise me by waking up again spontaneously immediately after suspending, for no apparent reason: requesting suspend again immediately would usually work. Now on 10.04, resume from suspend mashes the screen: graphics are OK, but the text is full of black blobs.
