KWIN desktop effects prevents dual screen configuration to work properly, killing X Server. After update from Kubuntu 9.10 to Kubuntu 10.04 I cannot use either xrandr (command line) or Screen settings (System Settings menu) to activate dual screen layout. X server crashes with any possible combination, then it restarts again. System is Dell laptop D430 and external Dell screen E198fpb. I tried to use plain KWIN effects installed from vanilla Kubuntu (no compiz installed). kde-window-manager v 4:4.4.2-0ubuntu14. Disabling desktop effects makes it work again without problems. Thus, it seems that desktop effects is preventing the X server after dual screen setting configuration.
