You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have Sony Vaio VGN-Z21XN which has nvidia 9300M graphic card. With Karmic, everything worked for me (direct rendering etc.). When I updated to Lucid, I wasn't able to get nvidia to work - no direct rendering (but there was no error in X.Org log) [1]. I googled and it seems that I'm not the only one, moreover, there are quite many threads with the same problem. Some people reports that clean installation solved their problem - I cannot confirm myself but it seems to be true because my friend has the same laptop as me and nvidia works for him - he did a clean install (he uses nvidia-173 and perhaps did not try nvidia- current). Because I don't want to do a clean install, I tried another method suggested here [2] - and it works for me (but of course, I would prefer to use distro driver instead of the one from nvidia FTP). So it seems that there is something wrong with nvidia driver when one upgrades from Karmic to Lucid.
If I can provide more information, please, do not hesitate and ask. Sorry if this issue is already reported. [1] I tried both, nvidia-current as well as nvidia-173, with 2.6.32 kernel (the latest available) [2] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1470343#10 ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nvidia does not work correctly when upgrading from Karmic (9.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584956 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
