I did a clean install with ubuntu 10.04. The screen itself is no longer freezing or going black. I can even use normal visual effects now.
The only thing that still happens when watching some videos, the screen is sometimes shaky while the audio just continues. No matter if it's just a media player or through flash. When putting the video in full screen, the system or application no longer crashes.
