Since Intel users are also affected by this, the problem might be caused by some common parts of kernel KMS DRM code shared between intel and radeon. It has been suggested the IRQ handling in DRM (latency) might be cause of problem, in upstream fdo bug28106. Would be great to get this *extremely* annoying bug fixed...
@dfme: 1. Does problem go away if you boot kernel with "i915.modeset=0" option (KMS disabled) ? 2.
