I am not sure that my problem has been solved. Last week I googled some more and found the following bug report which seemed related to the one I have filed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/539772
I thus upgraded a few days ago according to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/539772/comments/29 After that, I have not had any problems.
