This problem persists for me under Ubuntu 10.10 alpha 1, together with the poor graphics performance.
I also had a problem running the video test under Ubuntu 10.10 alpha 1 (live CD), where the screen is first red, then shifts to other colors after pressing a key. The computer does not respond to a key press. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del brings the logoff dialog to the foreground and after I cancel that, the test proceeds as intended, pressing a key brings the next color until completion of the test.
