I have the same issue with my dell E6510. I am in the process of rebuilding the kernel with the patch in #36, but for now I was able to get the 'intel' driver working by using the mainline-kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.13-lucid/
