@Chris Halse Rogers: I ran ppa-purge on both of the glasen PPAs and re-enabled the raof one, upgraded and rebooted. Toshiba A10 is running. I'm typing this message from it.
Just one thing I'm not sure about: the glasen ppa compiled some kernel module, and it may still be enabled.
