Jon, my suggestion is that you reinstall using the beta-version to see if the bug still exits.
I've made a number of new installationen lately and have not been able to reproduce this bug. A lot of things can happen during the development cycle and as you've done using "dist-upgrade" each time is not a good idea unless you know what you're doing. The option "dist-upgrade" is mainly meant for stable releases but may be needed (forced) for some rare cases even during the development cycle. Myself I will leave this for now and make a reinstallation later on.
