Public bug reported:

The version of the nVidia drivers packaged for Maverick is 256.44. The
current version available from nVidia is 256.53.

The .44 version of the nVidia driver does not work at all on my system
with a GT240M graphics card. I had to remove that and disable nouveau,
download and install the .53 version from nVidia's website to get a
usable display.

The nouveau driver is pretty useless, unfortunately, as it does not, on
my system at least, support 3d and does not support the max resolution
of my screen (1920x1080). The best resolution I could get with nouveau
was something like 1280x720 and it looked horrible.

The .44 version does not work due to ABI changes (the .44 driver does
not support the new ABI while the .53 version DOES).
