The bug still exists in Lucid 10.04, using a 00:02.0 VGA compatible
controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller
(rev 02) graphics adapter and a ViewSonic E70f.

It existed in Karmic, but after upgrading the computer, it still exists.
Starting the monitor after ubuntu has loaded seems to work.

[i865] Monitor initially recognized in Ubuntu 9.10, but then reverts to
"Unknown Monitor" with 800x600 resolution.
