Unfortunately the above hack of modifying xorg.conf isn't a solution for 10.4. After several weeks of joy, the bug struck again.
I was lazily editing a document and leaned on the keyboard, probably pressing the ctrl or shift key. Bam, the space key started to auto- repeat.
