I have the same bug on a Acer Aspire ( Atom processor, Nvidia Ion) With 10.10, mplayer with vdpau is not able to read nicely 1080p x264 videos. The same PC with 10.04 plays perfectly the videos with the subtitles. There is a notable regression within mplayer or libvdpau.
