Dear X team and fans, mesa 7.6 is coming up soon, the first RC will be released Friday and the final release is expected soon thereafter [1]. We should therefore give it a solid beating and make sure there are no regressions or critical bugs - the sooner the better.
We have a Feature Freeze exception granted for mesa 7.6 in karmic [2], so what we see in the upstream 7.6 branch now should pretty much be what we will get in karmic final. The current karmic package was pulled from the master branch more than a month ago, before the 7.6 branch was created. This is some 700 commits ago, but very many of those are not relevant for what we are shipping (gallium, llvmpipe). Many of us have been running mesa master from xorg-edgers, but the 7.6 branch has probably not gotten so much testing. Time to catch up :) So I have pushed a 7.6 snapshot to the X Updates PPA [3]. I will keep updating it over the next days as it turns into the official RC. Please test! For those on xorg-edgers, I would suggest that you back out xorg-edgers for a few days (you can use ppa-purge for this) and instead test the 7.6 branch. I have been thinking of forcing the 7.6 package into xorg-edgers for some days, but it would probably cause too much confusion and not be fair for those running all the R6xx goodness in master :) Oh, and seeing the karmic Beta freeze already coming, I would recommend pushing this into main now, so that any changes post-beta will be minimal. Happy testing!
