Are you behind a proxy? In that case, most likely you are a victim of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/516032 In that case you could try to add the repositories manually: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntugis-ubuntugis-unstable-maverick.list and add these two lines: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu maverick main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntumaverick main
