AFAIK there are no Debian GIS packages in wheezy-backports yet. There has been talk of providing backports for the next stable release (jessie), but nothing concrete has come out of that. It's also a bit early for that. Several core libraries have not been updated in unstable yet, having the same version in stable, testing and unstable. The backports for Debian would be based on the packages in testing, not those uploaded to unstable. So we first need to update the GIS packages in unstable. I'd like to have dedicated branches in the Debian GIS git for these backports, so we have all the packing in one place. Since these are not official Debian backports, naming the branch "mapgears-backports" may be approriate. We can cherry-pick changes from these branches for the official backports once we get around to them.
