The Geonode team already packages Geoserver in a PPA using the war wrapping method. That's where the idea comes from to begin with. https://launchpad.net/~geonode/+archive/release I think they only have Goeserver 2.2 though for Geonode authentication compatibility issues. GeoTools and JTS might have potential to be Debian compliant packages as they are underlying libraries of many other applications.
