Jerome,
I think you are right to be focusing on GeoServer and GeoTools in the
first instance, as both projects are both widely used, and have a strong
community behind them.
GeoServer depends upon GeoTools which in turn depends upon JTS.
I'd be interested to hear Ben's recommendations re packaging.

Hi Jerome,
with respects to java tools/software for which packaging would be
nice, besides Geotools and Geoserver, there is:
Desktop:
-gvSIG
-OpenJUMP
-uDig
-perhaps: OrbisGIS
-perhaps: Kosmo (but should have some not-so-free packages?)
Tools:
- JTS Topology Suite (actually part of several other software, such as
GeoTools and GeoServer)
- perhaps: GeOxygene
Server:
- deegree
- GeoNetwork
All are on the liveDVD, except GeOxygene.
Need to think about further tools that are from the java tribe.
cheers,
stefan

Hi,
This week I finished most of the repackaging for Trusty. I also started
looking into Java packaging.
I looked into how GeoServer was packaged and into tools like jdeb and
the Maven Debian Helper. I tested both on some already packaged java
applications to learn. I started working on GeoTools too, listing which
java dependencies will have to be packaged and if it was worth it to
package the Jar directly.
Next week I'll finish listing the dependencies need for GeoTools since
it looks to be the most important GIS Java app to package right now. If
you have more suggestion as to what to package please feel free to ask
on the list.
