jhunter is still having a problem:
I downloaded the desktop version of Ubuntu 8.04 at
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download, so it wasn't the server edition.
I will try the Hunter edition.

Please could you try downloading a different version of linux, a distro called
Wolvix Hunter 1.1.0

and try the LiveCd of that? Hopefully that might give an indication of working
which would possibly tell us something. The Hunter edition has OpenOffice
which i find helpful.
