Question #76424 on Ubuntu changed:

Tom proposed the following answer:
Hmmm, can you try a very different version of linux called Wolvix?
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=wolvix
Just to test a few things out. This one doesn't have the option "Try Ubuntu
without changes to the machine" but when you get to it's splash screen it might
be worth pressing F1 (or is it F2?) to have a look at the options you can use
with Wolvix. But with Wolvix you should be able to just press enter at the
splash screen and then get to a login
username root
password toor
and this should get you to a working desktop. We call this a "LiveCd session",
if it works.
Please let us know if you can get a LiveCd session of Wolvix but not of Ubuntu
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
Ps if Wolvix doesn't work either see if you can find how to get it to
use Xvesa rather than Xorg ;)
