It either means you don't have the language/font installed to be able to
display it, or it is a command for things like right-to-left languages,
line feed, tab, etc.
There are many "characters" that aren't really letters/numbers. Check out the
ASCII characters:
http://ascii-table.com/ascii.php
The first 32 (0-31) are commands as I described with no visual
representation.
