New question #76762 on Ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/76762

When I installed ubuntu 7.04, I did so from a disk provided by a ubuntu book
publisher, which seemed only to contain the i386 variant, which is what I
installed. I have since upgraded to 9.04. I have burned a copy of ubuntu 9.04
amd64 variant, which is more appropriate for my computer and have tried to
implement it but synaptic responds that it does not find any packages in the
burned copy. I dont know if the burned copy is bad or ifit cant handle such an
upgrade from i386 to amd64. Is there any procedure to effect such a conversion?
