actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
you could use:
sudo ifdown <adapter name>
to pull all other connections down. This will force all connections
through the only available connection. You will need to use
sudo ifup <adapter name>
if you wish to use them later. If it works using this then you can
script it to make life easier
