I'd log a bug. I have this too so I just stopped bothering and set up a
file server which my friends have accounts on.
I had this too. Happens on Sametime too. Maybe someone can pitch in a
solution.
All I can recommend is close pidgin completely and rename ~/.purple to
create a fresh profile to see if it is the same, if its not then its
definately the app and you can rename back the ~/.purple folder. Do not
delete it as this holds your settings.
If the fresh profile allows file transfers then the old profile is at fault.
You then have 2 choices:
1) Build the new profile up with accounts and settings (easy)
2) Rename the old profile back and try to work out what is going on (hard)
