You could try opening a command line terminal and typing:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
This will install flash player + multimedia codecs, may resolve your issue.
If not. What type of file is the e-mailed slideshow you have. Do you know if
the video/slideshows are flash video? or what format they are in and what
plugin is being used to play the files in your web browser? And what browser
are you using?
