Raini Haynes requested for more information: Been trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 for 2 weeks (to no avail). I keep the error that something must be wrong with my CD/DVD or hard drive. So .. I bought a new 500GB HD and still got the same error. Then I disabled my primary HD (from the BIOS) and installed Ubuntu from the second drive but got the same error as I did with the first drive. Next, i tried installing Ubuntu using my USB flash drive and got the same message that there is a problem with my CDC/DVD or Hard drive. I have read alot of Ubunty forums and saw this one that tells me to go to the terminal and type lspci.
