EdLagniappe gave more information on the question: Unless I'm missing something obvious in the above file (suggested by Florian Diesch) ... perhaps the problem is in a file PRIOR to /system/boot/grub/menu.lst? What files are in the boot sequence prior to it? I know the old "batch files" from DOS ... but I don't know what drives the bootup in Linux.
