Question #77642 on Ubuntu changed: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/77642
supernaicol proposed the following answer: First of all, activate all the repositories: backports, suggested, updates, ecc. In hardy, you can install the meta-package kubuntu-kde4-desktop, but it installs only kde 4.0.x, not the last stable 4.2, nevertheless the 4.3 that hasn't been released yet (only the release candidate). If you want to install the latest STABLE release of kde4 (at the moment 4.2, in a bunch of days hopefully 4.3) you can add this hardy ppa repository: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ppa/ubuntu hardy main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ppa/ubuntu hardy main and, after you authenticate the repository with the gpg key, you can install and enjoy a fresh kde 4.2.2 installation.
