I am running Ubuntu 9.04x64. Another colleague at the office is running Ubuntu 8.10x64. I set up my printer exactly the same as he: It is a Dell 1710. Connected as an smb share. The driver is the "Generic PLC 5 Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.3". I am able to print from OpenOffice.org fine. If I print from Firefox, the printer light starts flashing, but nothing comes out. There are no errors, there is nothing in the printer queue. If I print from eVince (.pdf files), I get an error from eVince "Failed to print document.
