Question #12326 on firefox in ubuntu changed: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+question/12326
powertower proposed the following answer: I've posted this on an ubuntu thread also but here goes: OK so I've been fighting this problem for several weeks. No one seemed to know why firefox would freeze in Ubuntu 8 and 9. I figured it out by running firefox in debug mode. "NSPR_LOG_MODULES=all:5 firefox" Every time firefox froze I would see "resolving safebrowsing- cache.google.com". So I tried the usual ping, nslookup and the results were very inconsistent. Sometimes it would resolve but mostly just time out. After a little googling I found out that firefox has built in Google Safe Search that frequently communicates with safebrowsing-cache.google.com. So I disabled this safe search feature and NO MORE LOCK UPS!! You can disable This safe search feature by going to Edit - Preferences - Security, uncheck "Block reported attack sites" and "Block reported web forgeries" . Hope this helps some of you, it was very frustrating for me. -- You received this question notification because you are a member of UF Unanswered Posts Team, which is an answer contact for Ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuforums-unanswered Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuforums-unanswered More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
