All the play tests at the Preferences: Sound Control Panel are OK with Chaintech AV710 ICE1724(OSS) selected (Envy 24 based card). What is more all types of sound files on CD, DVD, and HD play just fine, yet when I play a video on the Internet I get no sound. I believe I installed the correct plug-in to handle Windows 8 Media Player files. That is the one I needed at one site according to the Firefox message box that informed me of the playback problem. My list of installed plug-ins includes the Totem 2.26.1 that plays Windows Media Player 10 files.
