New question #78177 on Ubuntu: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78177
Updating yesterday (prev. update 3 weeks ago) on 8.04 (on Thinkpad x61s) resulted in the following: The boot flows presumably normal up to "Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [OK] " Then it attempts to switch to graphic mode and immediately falls back to text mode. After a couple of such attempts the blue text appears saying "The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds. It is likely that something bad is going on. Waiting for 2 minutes before trying again on display :0" syslog contains a sequence of pairs: gdm[5825]: WARNING: gdm_cleanup_children: child 9049 crashed of signal 6 gdm[5825]: WARNING: gdm_cleanup_children: Slave crashed, killing its children gdm[5825]: WARNING: gdm_cleanup_children: child 9201 crashed of signal 6 gdm[5825]: WARNING: gdm_cleanup_children: Slave crashed, killing its children .. The updated packages included (skipping version numbers) dbus dhcp3 firefox gvfs, several lib's, linux-headers linux-image linux-kernel-devel linux-libc-dev linux-source nautilus pulseaudio ruby and xulrunner -- You received this question notification because you are a member of UF Unanswered Posts Team, which is an answer contact for Ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuforums-unanswered Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuforums-unanswered More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
