New question #78309 on Ubuntu: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78309
Installed Seagate Barracuda ES 2 Terabyte drive. Installed Ubuntu with no problems save the one. I'm using a fatal1ty-an9-32x motherboard with nVidia chipset, AMD duo 2 +4800. Debian reports the same size (137 gb) for the hard drive. Windows XP sees the drive correctly at 1 terabyte. The firmware on the hard drive is up to date according to Seagate Technician. Seatools for Dos and BIOS see the drive as terabyte. BIOS has latest firmware update (rvision 19). In Seatools for Dos it shows the harddrive using Max native address. If I manually reset in Seatools for Dos the Max addresses, I see the whole drive in Ubuntu. If I reboot again it is lost. Grub geometry shows: grub> geometry (hd1) geometry (hd1) drive 0x81: C/H/S = 16709/255/63, The number of sectors = 268435455, /dev/sdb Partition num: 0, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 Partition num: 4, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x82 Partition num: 5, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 grub> Which shows some of the partitions. One is missing, a swap partition for another version of Linux. I used grub geometry to set the cylinders heads and sectors - didn't work. I've reinstalled several times - didn't work. I would really like to use the whole drive.
