Hi :)
Glad you got the Ubuntu Cd through shipit :)
During the install process when you get to the "Partitioning Section" choose
"Manual Partitioning". It's the bottom of 3 options and is easy to miss
because the other 2 options have a nice graphic showing the hard-drive but
"Manual Partitioning" doesn't. When you choose this option the installer will
rescan your drives which is a slightly scary moment if you're not expecting it!
Then it will show a new page of the installer which should show all your
partitions :) Edit sda6 to set it's "Mount Point" to "/" and edit sda7 to set
it's "Mount Point" to "/home". Note that if you have a separate /home then
Ubuntu itself only needs about 5Gb, 10Gb would be hugely generous ;)
Also note that different linux distros can share the same /home
partition as well as sharing the swap. However i think openSUSE also
uses the gnome desktop so it would be wise to give your ubuntu install a
different username than you use in openSUSE otherwise the desktops
environments could get a bit confused. I think the way you are giving
each a separate /home is probably safer until you've had chance to
explore Ubuntu a lot and got used to it a bit more. After all both
openSUSE and Ubuntu will be able to read and write to each other's
spaces quite easily enough anyway :)
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
