Question #79047 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/79047

Tom proposed the following answer:
Hi

I think it might be a good idea to try ordering a free Ubuntu cd (or a few for
people you know) from shipit
https://shipit.ubuntu.com/
Shipit are great but it can take 2 months to get the Cd delivered that way.

In the meantime this guide might help
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
i tend to find the cheapest "write once" cds that you can only get in blocks of
10 or more are better for this than more expensive cds. Dvds tend to be really
rubbish, well at this they seem to be anyway - i've not had much luck even at
slowest burn speeds for this type of thing.

Also it might be worth trying a very much lighter version of linux
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=slitaz
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=wolvix
either of these should produce a much better cd. SliTaz is very tiny but
Wolvix Hunter 1.1.0 has better hardware detection and hardware support so try
either of them.

Anyway once you have the cd then boot up from it to the menu with "Try Ubuntu
without changes to this machine", if you don't get that menu then this guide
might help
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD
Choosing the "Try Ubuntu ... " option should get you to a working desktop which
we call a "LiveCd session", if it works ;)

For Wolvix & sliTaz you just get a splash-screen, no menu, but just
pressing enter should get you to a working desktop "LiveCd session" just
the same. Oh, the wolvix username is "root" and the password is "toor"
btw.

Hopefully something here works!
Good luck with all this!
Regards from
Tom :)
