Doesn't matter where you got the CD or the ISO, you should check it to make
sure the ISO hasnt been garbaged in transit and that the burn has succeeded
properly. Operating system install mediums are hugely sensitive to erroneos
data and a bad install CD will yield a bad install experience.
The RAM test is a good thing to do just so that we know it is ok and is quite
quick.
The system install has not worked so you must test everything you can to see if
anything is fundamentally wrong. It is not sufficient to be complacemnt with
the system if the install is not smooth.
If the CD and memory check out ok you can start looking at boot options and
disabling hardware in the BIOS until you get an install.
