Tom proposed the following answer: Hi :) Do you get as far as the boot-menu that has several options for booting into Ubuntu? If so then the 2nd choice should say "recovery mode" near the end of it's line. Sometimes that menu is hidden and about the time the boot up gets to "Loading Grub 1.5" (or something) it will suggest pressing "Esc" to get to that menu. Its worth running through a few options there about once a month anyway.
