As a result of my insatiable curiosity I was experimenting with various login sessions; one of them being cairo-dock. The computer now begins the boot-up sequence as usual but get's 'stuck' right before the display should be showing the desktop. I can continue it by the ctrl-alt-F1 sequence and typing startx but would like to know which file needs editing to make the default session boot permanentley.
All my searches were fruitless as the old files such as desktop.session and lightdm.conf are either non-existent in 14.04 or have been replaced with something else.
