Hi Ali,
You missed my point there. My intention was to point out the sad state
of the live installer (ubiquity), not to point out the need for more
upgrade testing by other testers. I did perform the upgrade tests from
Trusty -> Utopic and they passed. I'll more completely address the
'ubiquity' issue in a future reply to Tim and cc the QA list.
While we're on the topic of testing I see that I was once again almost
the only tester, someone did perform one additional live image test, and
I know you've poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into recruiting
more testers. I also keep dangling the bait in front of potential
testers at the forums with no luck.
But it would be irresponsible to not share my current "real_life" state
of affairs. I was hospitalized in March of this year when my Afib got
out of control, and in April I had a mild stroke due to a blood clot
blocking the blood flow to my brain. Luckily I've regained much of the
use of my left arm and leg, but it did slow me down both physically and
cognitively.
Things turned a bit worse this month when I went into Vtach which
resulted in my first (and hopefully last) helicopter ride to the nearest
hospital with a cardiac intensive care unit. Once again I cheated death
but one of my new drugs (amiodarone) has produced a tremor that
certainly slows me down even further.
My point in sharing that personal info is just to point out the need to
recruit new iso/upgrade testers, not that you're not already doing so.
As always I appreciate evrything you, Tim, and others do and have done
to bring the GNOME DE back to Ubuntu.

The Utopic Beta 2 Release notes should simply recommend using the
Beta 1 images or upgrading from Trusty (perhaps with a reminder to
'ppa-purge' any PPA's in use). In their current state the images
should NOT be used for anything but "entire disc" installs when
there is only one disc installed in the machine and the plan is to
erase all existing data and OS's on the machine.
While this conversation is about upgrading Beta 1 to Beta 2:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-quality/2014-September/005498.html
I still find it - IMHO - more important to do a fresh new installation
than upgrading. Yes, I am not suggesting to ignore the 'upgrade' but
all what I am stating is: new installation test is a high priority.
However, this is what I think :) YMMV.
Two points to keep in mind and this is for everyone:
(1) While it is always good to remind the testers to do an upgrade
test from Trusty to Utopic, this should be one of the 'tests' that
testers do.
(2) Above all, the Wiki Pages are not strict to Ali, Tim or Ubuntu
GNOME Wiki Team :) really, everyone can help and add/update whatever
he/she feels good for everyone. Ubuntu GNOME is not my nor Tim nor
anyone's project, it is a community project and I highly dislike the
fact that only few people are involved. Anyone is more than welcome
and invited to play his role. Yes, I know you prefer to stay away from
Wiki Pages but this is an open invite to ALL and EVERYONE who wish to
add/update anything.
If you can't for whatever reason, send us an email which in your case,
you did that already. If you don't want to do that, then don't
complain about it. Plain and simple :) again, this is for everyone,
not just Lance :)
Sorry to come across as a Debbie Downer but those are just the
facts as I see them.
We always appreciate your feedback. I don't find it a very high
priority because usually, we don't mention that on the Release Notes
... this is something that the QA team do usually. The Release Notes
is something else, it is not entirely for the QA team. It is for everyone.
I just logged in and opened my machine. I will prepare the
announcement and all .. will mention the upgrade test on the website
post ;)
