Yes true ? I would prefer have a ubuntu classic as choice more than unity. Unity is ubuntu : I think is life cycle will be very short no use to learn how to use it ! I tried to install many times ugr but each time I had to come back to ubuntu classic. I think it's the same as with kde4, at beginning, it was not very stable, but now it's good thing (though i prefer gnome : quicker and themes are really good) it's a matter of test I use both. At the moment ubuntu classic with gnome 2.32 works very fine I could even get back emerald so i am very happy with it. I would like to test gnome-3 more but I think it's too unstable on ubuntu at the moment. Normal they did it on purpose
