Errr, most of the reason Xp is still supported is due to the 'success' of Longhorn and Vista. Apparently Win8 is set to be just as good. Win7 seems to have been a blip but people have learned to be wary of new offerings from MS.
Why upgrade Ubuntu without first giving it a trial run?? LiveCd/Usb, spare partition or Virtual Machine are all so easy in almost any Gnu&Linux. None of those options are easy in Windows. Also I've not seen people install Windows to a usb-stick with any amount of success. Ubuntu also lacks the other features of Windows such as paranoia and vulnerabilities. A reluctance to deal with a malware problem or even admit to it even after thousands or millions of users have been affected. Ubuntu doesn't slow down so badly and doesn't need hefty hardware upgrades just to keep running. Hmmm, Unity interface woes or 2 taskbars giving more info (such as the date) and a workspace switcher. Either way i'm happier than when i am forced into using Windows. This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix. Non-free software is holding back innovation in the IT industry, restricting access to IT to a small part of the world's population and limiting the ability of software developers to reach their full potential, globally. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry. Steps to repeat: 1. Visit a local PC store. What happens: 2. Observe that a majority of PCs for sale have non-free software pre-installed. 3. Observe very few PCs with Ubuntu and free software pre-installed. What should happen: 1. A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software like Ubuntu. 2. Ubuntu should be marketed in a way such that its amazing features and benefits would be apparent and known by all. 3. The system shall become more and more user friendly as time passes.
