1. A firewall can be somewhat important. If you are behind your own router
(using NAT), I wouldn't be too concerned. If you want one, install
Firestarter.

2. AV is marginally useful also. There really aren't that many Linux
viruses. Just use proper security precautions, you'll be ok.

I use neither right now, but my (NAT) router is firewalled.
