I can't say for sure, but my instinct is that this crashing is unrelated 
to the codecs installed. I just tried importing some media that isn't 
supported (Nero format) and it imports OK. It doesn't play but it 
doesn't crash. I'm wondering if the bite size of the 20,000 items is the 
issue.
