Well, there does seem to be some DHCP stuff on our older Linux
systems, but it isn't being used. Don't ask me why. Someone else set
this stuff up and I inherited it. Plus, my knowledge of network
administration is about on a par with other compiler maintainers. :) :
( Anyway, my goal was to get this set up with as little
reconfiguration of our other systems as possible, which is the reason
why I wanted a specific IP address.
In any case, thanks a lot for the advice. I modified /etc/networks/
interfaces manually like you suggested, and everything is now working
great (after fixing /etc/resolv.conf manually too). I really
appreciate it.
