What is your hardware? Wubi installs from inside Windows, but completes the installation once you re-boot. How far do you get and what messages, if any do you get? Usually you do not press ESC. It modifies the Windows bootloader and sets Ubuntu as the second option. Did you remove the CD? Otherwise it will try to run from the CD. Do you get past the Windows two line bootloader? Does grub display?
